Business Description
|
Rhinefarm has been in the Bundschu family since 1858. Bavarian winegrower Jacob Gundlach planted Sonoma County's first Riesling vines upon founding the winery that year. Joined by son-in-law Charles Bundschu, the pair established a series of impressive wine vaults in San Francisco, and the firm was eventually renamed Gundlach-Bundschu Wine Company. Although the vaults were destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and fire, Charles' sons, Carl and Walter continued making wines from Rhinefarm in the early part of the century until Prohibition, which closed the doors of the winery for the next 50 years.
